In a recent networking group talk, I highlighted the significance of how we present ourselves at work and the pivotal role it plays in forming initial impressions. It's fascinating to note that 55% of these impressions are based on our appearance and physiology, while only 7% rests on what we actually say. This shows the importance of making deliberate choices about our clothing, whether we're employers, employees, or interview candidates.

Colour, in particular, holds immense sway over how we're perceived. Take red, for example—it can convey aggression, making it apt for tough conversations. However, there is no need to wear all-red from top to toe; even a subtle touch like a red accessory can be enough. Conversely, blue gives a sense of calmness and professionalism, and trustworthiness.


Just as businesses meticulously select brand colours to convey specific messages, individuals should similarly consider the colours they wear to work. By aligning our attire with colours that complement us, we not only enhance our own confidence but also influence how others perceive us—both in professional settings and beyond.
