Capsule wardrobe ideas

The basic items in any woman's wardrobe can vary depending on personal style, lifestyle, and climate. However, here are some essential items that I think would work well in any wardrobe.

The fit is the most important, and being petite, as we all know, that that can be an issue. Get the fit right first, then build up your wardrobe and curate it for your petiteness!

And don't forget to add a bit of colour!

(Most of the items in the picture are from a petite selection)

  • Little Black Dress (LBD): It needn’t be black - think about your neutral colour palette - eg. it could be navy, grey, or brown. Pick a versatile, timeless dress that can be dressed up or down for various occasions.

  • White Button-Down Shirt: A classic piece that can be worn with jeans for a casual look or dressed up with a skirt or trousers.

  • Jeans: A well-fitting pair of jeans is a staple in any wardrobe. Choose a style and wash that flatters your body shape.

  • Blazer: A tailored blazer instantly adds polish to any outfit. Again, Opt for a neutral colour like black, navy, or grey for versatility.

  • Trench Coat: A timeless outerwear piece that works well in transitional weather and can be worn with jeans as well as tailored trousers.

  • Basic T-shirts: Invest in high-quality, neutral-coloured T-shirts that can be easily layered or worn on their own.

  • A Skirt: A well-fitting skirt that can be dressed up for the office or paired with a casual top for a more relaxed look. Again, choose a style that works with your body shape.

  • Cardigans: Versatile and comfortable, cardigans can be layered over dresses, tops, or shirts for added warmth and style. Try waist-length ones, as well as longer styles too.

  • Ballet Flats: Comfortable and versatile, ballet flats are such a useful shoe to have

  • Classic Handbag: Invest in a well-made, timeless handbag that can carry your essentials and complement various outfits.

  • White trainers - not keen on white? Look for a neutral colour, such as cream, or pink. Personally, I avoid the white ones - I just feel all feet!

  • Statement Accessories: Add a personal touch to your outfits with statement jewellery, scarves, or belts. Just bear in mind the size, scale and proportion

These are just basic items, and you may prefer some pieces over others depending on your lifestyle. It's essential to build a wardrobe that reflects your personal style and meets your specific needs.

But, for all these pieces I would go with quality over quantity - because they will last you years!
